So this year I had a James Bond themed murder mystery dinner for my 21st birthday party. It was a girls night only and everyone came up dressed up as a character from the film "You only live twice".
Mummy excelled herself in the kitchen as per usual, and we had a delicious selection of nibbles accompanied by a specially designed 'Aston Martin' cocktail by R. The main course was a succulent and very clean tasting Salmon en Croute with a watercress duxelle, served with leeks, carrots and petit pois. The masterpiece of the meal was the dessert; a meringue pavlova with marrón (chestnut pureé), dark chocolate shavings and sprayed gold. Truly spectacular and very fitting to the glamorous James Bond theme.
Scaryminger - The man with the golden bum
Ernst Fuzzyfelt - The man with the white cat, Miss Penny Farthing - Secretary, Cuttlefishy - More than a sweet distraction, Dr Yes
The courses were interspersed with scripted conversations between the murder suspects and some questioning, in some very dodgy male accents that in my case were unintentionally international (I tried Scottish/Northern/Brummie/Indian/Aussie/South African…….the list goes on)
Most of us girls had never done a murder mystery dinner before, and we were impressed by how well the setup worked. Throughout the meal we learnt about the characteristics of the suspects, their careers and their interactions with the murdered spy. After dessert we each made a closing speech and then discussed our individual suspicions…..everyone had slightly differing ideas over the identity of the murderer…..and it turns out that the other assassin was guilty, it always is the quiet ones!!
Kitty With-Claws - A pussy cat you wouldn't want to mess with
Gold Thumb - The man with the midas touch, Xenia Onabottom - A woman who knows how to take care of herself
I had a super fabulous night, it was so lovely to see my dear friends and to have a girly evening at home. I fully recommend a murder mystery dinner to all sceptics, it's such a fun way to entertain :) A toast was made to all absent friends, we enjoyed the night extra for you all.
