Keeping true to my 'last minute' nickname, I ended up decorating this year's Christmas cakes on the 24th and 25th of December.... No time like the present and all that...
Cake #1
This year saw the return of some firm favourites such as the albino penguin, and also featured the appearance of some new wildlife....
Cake decorating is very much a family affair, with everyone getting involved somewhere along the way :)
I like to eat icing, I do no discriminate against colours, all are equally welcome in my tummy!
Koala construction taking place.

The completed menagerie :)
We decided upon a green-grass and silver-snow base for the animals to sit on.
A sterling effort by the whole tribe I think. L-R (front-back) we have: turtle, snake, bees, elephant, dog, penguins, ladybird, cat, seal, mouse, frog, robin, duck, dung, scarab bettle, whale, koala, pig, octopus, lobster and snails.
Cake #2
This cake was decorated Christmas night whilst my sister was merrily creating my birthday cake in the kitchen behind me-no peeking allowed. I entertained myself with 'A bug's life' simultaneously.
Can you guess what it is?
Technicoloured animals....who wants to be normal?
A beautifully soft and moist cake with plenty of fruity flavour, well done Mummy x
Cake #3
As is tradition in our household, the gingerbread house gets decorated Christmas Eve night whilst watching Love Actually....so festive!
I'm taking liberties with the term 'cake', but I'm sure you'll excuse me here, because it is a baking creation. Ok, I'll admit, I didn't actually make the gingerbread myself....that's a challenge for the new year....
Having to be extra patient whilst waiting for the icing to set....
Finished article, even lobby was happy with what he saw!!
My brothers just couldn't resist the temptation...Rupert must have eaten at least a whole side by himself!!!
I couldn't believe quite how quickly it disappeared!! It was definitely worth all the super slow and steady effort to pipe the icing.

Looks SOOOOOOO TASTY!!!!! <3 Louise xx
ReplyDeleteAh thanks Louise :) I definitely ate way too much of the icing as I was going along!!x
DeleteYour talent for making icing animals is quite unbelievable. Check out the detail on the original turtle shell, brilliant. I agree that jazzing up the icing on Christmas cake no.2 was an inspired idea. As much as I love tradition it's fun to be different once in a while.
ReplyDeleteNext year I promise we will make our gingerbread from scratch. But never the less, it was undoubtedly a joy to make.
Love Ella x
Aw thanks Ella. The Koala was my fav item this year :) Good effort from you too!
DeleteOoh a homemade gingerbread house sounds lovely too, bring it on x x x
